The History of eRedbook

In 2013, the team at Sitekit set out to reimagine the paper red book for the digital age. Despite being a trusted part of childhood health in the UK, the paper version was often misplaced, left incomplete, or difficult to access when it mattered most. GPs and Health Visitors shared stories of parents turning up years later, hoping to recover lost records - a clear sign that something better was needed.

The answer was eRedbook: a secure, digital version of the red book that empowers parents to track their child’s health journey, receive trusted guidance, and preserve milestones all in one place.

Today, any parent in the UK can sign up to eRedbook for free. They can record key health information - like height, weight, and immunisations - and access helpful NHS advice from pregnancy through to preschool. For many, eRedbook becomes a digital keepsake, blending personal memories with health records in a format that fits modern life.

In 2025, stewardship of eRedbook transitioned from Sitekit to Heathersoft, a technology partner dedicated to continuing the platform’s mission. Heathersoft now manages eRedbook’s development, ensuring it remains secure, accessible, and aligned with NHS values and expectations.

While eRedbook is already available to families, we’re actively exploring future partnerships with NHS organisations to reconnect parents with official health records - seamlessly and securely - wherever interoperable systems allow.

If you're a healthcare professional or organisation interested in supporting digital health journeys for families, we’d love to start the conversation.
